The full policy
Everything above, in full detail. This is the part that governs.
What we collect
Account information
Your email address and Google account ID from Google sign-in, and your name as it appears on that account.
Why: To create your account, recognise you when you come back, and apply the right plan limits.
Your LinkedIn profile address
The web address of your own LinkedIn profile, read from the page while you are signed in. We record it once, the first time we see it, and it is not updated afterwards.
Why: To stop one person from opening repeated free trials.
Comment preferences
The preferences you set in the extension, including your language choice, and any professional details you choose to add about yourself. These are settings you enter yourself, and you can change or clear them at any time.
Why: To generate comments in the voice you have chosen rather than a generic one.
Post content you act on
The text of a LinkedIn post, but only when you press the button to generate a comment on it, along with the post's identifier and the public LinkedIn username of whoever wrote it. We never read posts you have not acted on, and we never read your feed in the background.
Why: To generate a comment that actually responds to the post.
Usage records
How many comments you have generated, your plan, your remaining credits, and when you last used the extension.
Why: To apply the allowance that comes with your plan and show you how much of it is left.
Payment information
Your subscription status, customer ID, and any coupons you redeem. Card details go directly to LemonSqueezy, our payment processor, and we never see or store them.
Why: To give you access to the features you paid for.
Technical and diagnostic information
Error reports containing your account details, the extension version, your browser type, and the address of the page where the error happened. Also a signal sent about twice a day while the extension is installed, containing only your account ID and the time. That signal holds no browsing activity and no post content.
Why: To find and fix problems, and to know whether an installation is still working.
Feedback you choose to send
If you uninstall, we ask why, and you may add a comment in your own words.
Why: To understand why people leave. Answering is optional.
How we use it
To run the service
- Generate comments for the post you selected, using the preferences you set
- Apply the limit on how many comments can be generated for a single post
To manage your account
- Sign you in through Google
- Apply the allowance that comes with your plan
- Apply coupon credits
To keep the service working
- Investigate errors and failed generations
- Detect and prevent abuse of the service
We do not use your information to build a profile of you, to advertise, or for any purpose beyond the ones listed here.
How long we keep it
Three rules apply, depending on what the data is.
| What | How long | Then what |
|---|---|---|
| Account details, plan, usage records, coupons, uninstall feedback | While your account is active | Deleted on request within 30 days |
| Post text, generated comments, author username, error reports | Up to 90 days | Deleted automatically |
| Your preferences and local usage counts | Stored in your browser only | Erased the moment you sign out |
We keep the 90-day items so we can investigate problems and fix failures. We do not use them for anything else and we do not share them.
Security
- All traffic between the extension and our servers uses HTTPS
- Our API keys are held in encrypted storage on our servers
- No keys or credentials are included in the extension itself
- The extension runs inside Chrome's security sandbox
- Access to our servers and stored data is restricted to the developer
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise. If you find a security problem, write to support@linkomment.com.
Your rights
See your data
Email support@linkomment.com and we will send you a copy of what we hold.
Delete your data
Signing out clears everything stored in your browser right away. To remove your data from our servers, email us and we will delete it within 30 days.
Export your data
You can ask for your data in a machine-readable file.
Correct your data
You can update your preferences in the extension at any time. One exception: your LinkedIn profile address is recorded once and cannot be changed afterwards, because changing it would defeat its only purpose, preventing repeated free trials. If it was recorded incorrectly, email us.
Withdraw consent
Uninstall the extension and ask us to delete your account.
If you are in the EU or California
You also have the right to know what we collect and why, to opt out of data sales (we do not sell data), to have inaccurate data corrected, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights.
Permissions
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| identity | Sign you in with Google |
| identity.email | Read your email address for your account |
| storage | Save your preferences in your browser |
| alarms | Run the periodic check that confirms the extension is working |
| Access to linkedin.com | Add the comment button, and read a post when you ask for a comment |
We ask for the smallest set of permissions the extension needs.
Other things you should know
Cookies and tracking
Linkomment does not use cookies or tracking pixels. We do not collect your browsing history and we do not follow you across websites. The extension only runs on LinkedIn.
Children
Linkomment is not for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child's information reached us, write to support@linkomment.com and we will delete it.
Where your data is stored
Your data is processed and stored in the United States, in the AWS us-east-1 region. By using Linkomment you agree to this transfer. We follow applicable data protection law for international transfers, including GDPR requirements.
Legal basis, for users in the EU
- Contract: your account, preferences, and post content, because we cannot provide the service without them
- Legitimate interests: usage records and diagnostic information, to keep the service working and prevent abuse
- Consent: uninstall feedback, which is optional
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will show a notice in the extension. Continuing to use Linkomment after a change means you accept the updated policy.
